Jacob Mitchell, aka MC Grammar, is a multi-award-winning teacher turned rapper, educational consultant and trainer.
Combining his two passions—teaching and music—MC Grammar illustrates that learning can be engaging and exciting. His mission is to make learning fun, inclusive, and memorable for all.
He first tried his musical approach to teaching his pupils in 2014 through “The Grammar Song,” a rap he wrote to help them prepare for a tricky assessment. A few years later, a video of Jacob rapping the popular children’s book The Gruffalo went viral in 2019, and it was from here that his unique approach to learning became more widely recognised and his following grew.
He has since fronted the Sky Kids programme MC Grammar’s Wonder Raps’. Set to earworm tunes, MC Grammar’s fun comedic raps cover a wide range of educational topics, from volcanoes and saving the planet to human digestion and football. The nature of the earworm repeating in the head helps kids learn through repetition.

After leaving school with only two GCSEs, Jacob retrained at college, and it was then that he discovered that melodies helped him learn. He had a passion for teaching and fulfilled this passion by qualifying as a primary school teacher. While working as a teacher in London, he won the National Teacher of the Year Award and the London Teacher of the Year Award.
As MC Grammar, Jacob has appeared on Sky News, BBC News, BBC Radio, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5, This Morning, BBC Breakfast and The Ellen Show.
MC Grammar’s workshops, tailored to the school’s size, usually include two x 1-hour shows (KS1 and KS2) and a meet-and-greet class tour for photos, Q&A, and autographs. Additionally, MC Grammar can deliver short stories for FS or host a 20-minute assembly. Schools will receive a link to the songs MC Grammar will perform on the day, allowing each year group to learn a song in advance so they can rap along and excel in their SPaG objectives! The event also features performances of the WBD songs Wowza and Reading is Amazing, along with book-themed raps, freestyles, a rap battle, and a teacher challenge. It’s an incredible experience!
Jacob is also an educational consultant, advising the London Borough of Barnet on the Academies Enterprise Trust Careers. He has created and sold online resources, including a programme called The Learning Train. Jacob has created his only training programmes for teachers, including:
Jacob has sold his resources to schools in 20 countries, reaching 25,000 children.
One of Jacob’s proudest achievements was being an Ambassador for World Book Day.
In 2021, he wrote the official song for WBD, which followed MC Grammar as he embarked on a journey to find a new book, stumbling across a fantastic array of classic and new children’s books. He also created supporting learning packs for teachers and children.
Jacob is having a huge impact with his resources and programmes in schools, his programmes on Sky Kids, and his YouTube and other social media channels. He is fulfilling his mission to make learning memorable, inclusive, and, most importantly, FUN for every child.
