Steve Backley retired from the Javelin immediately after the 2004 Olympics, where he finished 4th. This ended a stellar career, which included 3 Olympic medals, 2 Silvers and a Bronze, 2 World Championship Silvers, 4 European gold medals and 4 Commonwealth medals – 3 Golds and a Silver.
